These sixpences (like nearly all 'silver' coins minted between 1947 and 1992) are made of cupronickel - a mixture of 75% copper and 25% nickel. They weigh on average 2.83 grams each, have a diameter of 19.4mm, have a milled edge and are about 1.5mm thick. From 1953 onward the coin has an intertwining design of a rose, thistle, shamrock and leek, representing the four Home Nations.
